Architectural Vistadesigns

Farnhambridge, Rothley

AVD was instructed to prepare a feasibility design for the conversion of a Barn to a residential dwelling.

Our work included the design and consultation with the Local Planning Authority on the proposals.

The proposals for the barn were to demolish the extents of the barn due to a poor structure and footings. In the exact same place of the existing barn, the proposed design would reflect to that of the original building but proposed with materials locally sourced to blend in with the surrounding countryside.

The internal planning of the barn created two wings connected by an open plan kitchen. One side of the wing housed two double bedrooms with en-suites and the other side of the wing housed the dining area and lounge. As part of the proposals the design also incorporated a separate guest living accommodation with a first floor bedroom to take advantage of large circular window looking out over the countryside.

Key views across the countryside were designed into the building by creating large openings within the building mass by using concertina sliding doors.
